Image Optimization with reSmush.it

Nature and Scope of Processing

We use the image optimization service reSmush.it on our website. The service is provided by reSmush.it’s free API. When new media files are uploaded or optimized on our WordPress instance, these image files are temporarily transferred to reSmush.it’s servers for compression and to reduce their file size. Due to technical requirements, our server’s IP address is transmitted to the provider during this transfer. In addition, any metadata contained in the images (e.g., EXIF data with GPS or copyright information) is processed on the provider’s servers during compression and removed by default. According to the provider, the image files are processed only temporarily for the compression process and are not permanently stored.

Purpose and Legal Basis

We use this service based on our legitimate interest pursuant to Article 6(1)(f) of the GDPR. Our legitimate interest consists of optimizing our website’s loading times (PageSpeed optimization), reducing data volume for mobile users, and conserving our server resources.

Retention Period

We have no influence over the exact retention period at the third-party provider. However, according to reSmush.it’s privacy policy, the data is deleted from their systems immediately after the compression process.

Transfers to Third Countries

reSmush.it’s infrastructure and servers are located within the European Union (France and Romania). No transfer of personal data to an unsafe third country (such as the United States) takes place.
